How to Get and Keep a Job As a Waitress

How to Get and Keep a Job As a Waitress By Joe T Marchelewski

The food service industry is far more complex than it seems, and getting a job waiting tables can be quite difficult. With so many people look for work right now, it almost seems as if there are no jobs available. Plus, employers do not have to pay as much as they used to with so many people fighting for so few jobs. However, there are certain tricks and tools someone can use to help them get a job in a restaurant or diner waiting tables. There are also certain tools and tricks someone can use to help them keep their job.

1 - It's "Who You Know." If you know someone who works at a restaurant, that is where you should start. So many people try filling out applications at every restaurant they can find, thinking that if they fill out a thousand resumes they should at least get a one job offer. However, this is not proving to be true these days. Find people you know who work at restaurants and ask them to introduce you to their boss. A referral is the best introduction.

2 - Know their food. If you walk into a restaurant and have no clue what they serve, you will be as impressive as a statue. However, if you have eaten at the restaurant, if you know their signature dish and/or if you have read some of the reviews, it will be incredibly helpful over the course of your job interview. Learn as much as you can about the restaurant and make that information work for you.

3 - Know your apples from your oranges. If you want a waitress job, the last thing you should do is say "I don't know anything about food, but I really need a job." Even if you are only applying at a diner, knowing the difference between a bagel and a bialy could get you a job offer much quicker. People do not want to have to train you, so the more prepared you seem, the better your changes.

4 - Perfect your appearance. Even if you do not have much money, you can present yourself as a clean, good looking individual. One of the chief complaints at any restaurant, bar, diner, coffee shop is cleanliness, and so managers and owners want employees who look clean. In order to get the waitress job you want, you are going to have to keep your nails trim, your hair combed, your facial hair to a minimum and your clothes at least presentable. If you look dirty, shabby or disheveled, you are shooting yourself in the foot big time.
5 - Once you have the job, use your tools. Once you have a waitress job, keep your hands dry so the plates don't slip. Keep your shoes tied (or free from laces completely) so you don't trip. Keep your cell phone off so that it doesn't chirp. Keep your eating to a minimum so that you don't burp.

6 - Don't kiss up, but don't miss an opportunity. When it comes time to fire or do layoffs, managers and owners have very little to go on. If everyone's got the same performance record, then it probably comes down to whoever the manager likes. Do your best to form a good relationship; that could go a long way towards keeping you employed in the long term.

How to Find the Best Nursing Job

How to Find the Best Nursing Job  By Carey Dover

Now that you have your nursing degree, you're ready to start your career! How can you find you find the position for you?

Step 1: The Resume

A well-written resume sells you to the potential employer, highlighting your abilities and accomplishments in a way that is relevant to the job. Because nursing is a competitive field, make sure your resume stands out by making it professional. Use heavy-weight linen or cotton rag paper in cream or white, with a plain, readable font. There are many good resume books with effective examples and templates; find one directed specifically to healthcare and craft a resume that emphasizes skills medical professionals are looking for. Target each resume to the position by avoiding vague objectives such as "I want to work in a large hospital." "I am seeking a position as an RN in obstetrics" is a better choice. Relate non-medical job experience to nursing and include volunteer positions, academic achievements, and applicable skills, such as fluency in a foreign language. Ensure your contact information is complete and accurate and, most importantly, be honest! A "padded" resume won't land the job or, if it does, will eventually get you fired.
Step 2: The Job Search

Decide which area of health care suits your needs, education, and interest. Do you want to work for a large or small hospital? Do you like working with the elderly? Would you prefer working in a school or physician's office? What hours do you prefer? Do you want to stay in town or relocate? Target your search accordingly. Use contacts you made when doing your clinicals, and check with your school's career services office. You can find some medical jobs advertised in the newspaper and approach physician offices or local nursing homes directly. However, your best option may be to search online. Every hospital website has a career section listing dozens of nursing jobs; often, a hospital manages doctor's offices and clinics and hires for them as well. You can also investigate general sites such as Nursingjobs.org, Nurse.com, and Medhunters.com.
Step 3: The Interview Process

It won't be long before you land your first interview. Here are some tips to make sure it is successful.
Be early. This shows you will be on-time and conscientious. Avoid plenty of travel time to allow for traffic problems, lack of parking, etc. Being early will also give you time to freshen up and find the office.
Be professional. Dress neatly in a clean, business-like outfit. Be well-groomed, but remember, this is an interview, not a date.
Be prepared. Research the hospital, company, or practice, so you can ask intelligent questions and direct your interview responses to the employer's needs.
Be positive. Be friendly, confident, and interested.
Be polite. After the interview, send a brief thank-you note and repeat your interest in the position.
Finally, be patient. Every job search takes time. But with your degree, a good resume and solid interview skills, you'll find a challenging and rewarding career in nursing.

Bank Exam - A Section - Wise Approach To Clear The Exam Successfully

Bank Exam - A Section - Wise Approach To Clear The Exam Successfully By Subash Kanda
Before you begin to start preparing for the Bank Exam which you are planning to join, you had better wait for a minute and peruse the few lines given hereunder.

You are perhaps aware that the Bank Clerks Examination consists of 4 parts comprising 200 questions which should be answered in 95 minutes. It means that you must answer a question in less than half a minute. Certainly it is not an easy task to do it and do it rightly at the same time. Hence it becomes essential to analyze and understand the format of the question paper.

The first 50 questions constitute the Test of Reasoning, 15 of which are verbal and the remaining 35, non-verbal. In the 1st type, questions are set on: Analogy, Spotting the odd man out, Completing a number series, Coding and decoding of information, Calculating days and dates and lastly Identifying the blood-relationship. The remaining 35 non-verbal questions are based on problem figures to solve which you need quick sense of perception and immediate application.

And then the next 50 questions are on English Language. In this section, you have to locate errors in grammar or usage, answer the questions under the given passage, supply antonyms or synonyms, arrange the jumbled sentences and finally complete the given passage with alternate choices given underneath.

In the Test on Numerical Ability, questions are set on familiar topics like Ratio and Proportion, Time and Work, Time and Distance, Percentages, Interest, Fractions and the like. This again can broadly be divided into two types: the first with 35 question, all based on numerical calculation, comes under the type of simplification, the second, with 15 questions, coming under verbal type deals with more puzzling problems. Here it is thoroughness in the grasp of the subject and quickness in problem solving techniques that is tested. And to this end, not only here, but wherever it is necessary, the coaching offers numerous examples and practice problem.

The last part deals with Clerical Aptitude. The 50 questions coming under this section can be placed into 4 categories. In the first there are 35 addresses, each correct address is followed by 3 incorrect ones (in some detail) and one correct one. Your job is to locate the correct address. The next 15 questions can come in the type of arranging the material. If a series of numbers are given, your immediate job is to visualise them in ascending / descending order; if words are given, to place them in alphabetical order; if some coding system is given, to decode them - words into numbers or numbers into words; if some ungrouped data are given, to classify them under different categories. This indeed is a herculian task and even if you set apart 15 minutes for this section, which could be the maximum time, it would still be impossible to score all correct. And this incidentally brings to the question of time management.

You may devote roughly: 30 minutes to the Test of Reasoning 30 minutes to the Test of Numerical Ability. and 20 minutes to English & 15 minutes to Clerical Aptitude.

It is not only because the first two are scoring topics, but also because high priority and maximum marks are allotted to these two. The ratio of marks is 2: 2: 1 for the Test of Reasoning, Numerical Ability and Clerical Aptitude respectively while no specified marks are set apart for the test of English language. No doubt you have to score a maximum marks in it whereas you have to get 80% in all the other sections, to qualify yourself for another and fifth test on Descriptive type paper where you have to answer 3 out of 4 questions in 45 minutes in your chosen language - English / Hindi / Regional language, of course all questions in the same language. Though the test is intended to assess your language skills, abilities of clear and correct expression, faculties of understanding and analysing problem areas, and offering practical suggestions and solutions, it is enough if you score a minimum pass marks - these marks and your marks in the English test mentioned above in the objective type, are not added to your aggregate marks to arrive at the final ranking. The marks scored in other subjects and your performance in the interview will alone qualify you for the final selection.
It does not mean that you can afford to ignore the language test. There is a prescribed minimum which you should attain, to get the green signal, and for that you need to work hard and practice well. Many site online provide free Bank Exam question papers. Surcoaching.com is one of them where they also provide online coaching for the Bank Exam conducted for various Bank Jobs. At the end of the coaching you will be able to clear the Bank Exam with no hassles. And now you can begin your work with the utmost sincerity and seriousness. Remember that well begun is half done.
